A Loving Message to Those in the LGBTQ+ Lifestyle or Who Are Considering It

You don’t have choose to be gay or transgender…there  are other (better) options!

Life is a series of choices like forks in a road. Which way will you go? Your life is the sum total of the choices that you will make and the consequences which are the results thereof. Thus, would it not be prudent to stop and think before making deciding which way to go? This goes for everyone including those choosing the LGBTQ+ lifestyle. Will this be the right choice and can I live with the consequences for the rest of my life?

Let’s ask ourselves another important question. Am I making decisions based on my feelings and emotions or based on logic and reason? Each of us has an emotional and rational part. What one do we follow? If we ignore one or the other, we might be missing an important piece of the puzzle that gives us the whole picture versus a narrow or incomplete view of it.

The thing about feelings and emotions, as wonderful as they can be, is that they are transitory, ephemeral and often momentary. They come and go and change over time. How you feel this moment will likely change the next moment depending on many life factors that evolve over time—especially as you grow older. Feelings are powerful and can overshadow our more rational side. You may feel like you are making a rational decision, when in reality it is based on your emotions. That is why it is important to stop and let the dust of emotions settle, so your mind can present a clearer picture pertaining to the choices you are about to make.

When considering entering the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, here some questions to ask yourself. What is your purpose on this planet and what brings you the deepest fulfillment? What is your deepest psychological and emotional need? What is your ultimate destiny? What is your chief goal in life? It is material possessions? Fortune? Mental enlightenment, intellectual stimulation and the acquisition of knowledge? Or the strong desire for power, fame and social prominence? How about pursuit of pleasure? Or satiating the sex drive? Having a good time with friends? Food? Physical intimacy? The goals we choose will determine where we end up at the end of your life. When you are on your death bed, will you look back on your life with regrets, wishing you had made different and better choices? These are things that most young people who have their whole lives ahead of them think little about. But life is fleeting and goes by quickly, and no one knows how long they have before they die—when life will end.

If you have chosen the LGBTQ+ lifestyle or are thinking about going in to it, here are some things to think about. What is important to you? Is it your sexual orientation or your gender? Is this the thing that you are most passionate about in life? Is this your main identity that describes who you are? Who you want to be remembered as? Is this the thing in your whole life that will bring you the most fulfillment, meaning and purpose? Will it still be as important to you in ten or twenty years, or when you are 50, 60 or 80 years old? Now consider this: what happens when you die? If there is an afterlife, what will be your fate? Will it be a good or bad one? How can you be sure?

For many people, the LGBTQ+ lifestyle is just another attempt to find meaning and purpose in life. Does such a non-traditional lifestyle answer life’s deepest questions like why am I alive, what is the point of my life, where does it all end, and what happens to me after I die? Or at the end of it all,  will you be left hanging, twisting about in the breeze like dust in the wind empty and directionless with your car on empty parked in the dead end cul-de-sac of life? Did sex and my sexual orientation deliver all that it promised?

Sex sells! Our modern culture has become rabidly transfixed on the basic human need for physical and emotional intimacy along with the need to fulfill the sex drive, which the LGBTQ+ lifestyle promises to satiate. Social media platforms like TicTok, Twitter or X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, dating apps, and countless online pornographic sites are driving forces in this tidal wave like societal current. Many people believe the social media messaging sex and physical intimacy or the key to long-lasting happiness, meaning and purpose in one’s life. But is this true?

So again when making choices, is it wise simply to follow our feelings and emotions, or what is currently popular on social media when we are seeking a path forward in our life? Currently societal trends are telling us that to be your true self, you need to follow your feelings and emotions. Is the new normal, the true reality, and what determines “truth”. Are today’s emotions and feelings today’s truth. If so, then whose feelings determine “truth”.  After all, everyone’s feelings are different and will change over time. Does that mean that “truth” also changes over time? Societal fads, trends, values, mores come and go. What is popular today will be out of style tomorrow. So where does that leave a person who believes that socials media, movies, popular songs, the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and even what is popularly taught in our schools and universities will still be believed in a few years?

Like one’s personal emotions change over time, those of the societal culture will eventually change. What was trendy and popular in the U.S. in the 1920 was out of style by the 1940, and fads of the 1960s replaced those the 1950s and so on and on. In all of this, feeling too often trump rationality and critical thinking as people simply follow the crowd to be popular. What happens if you put all of your life’s “eggs” into one basket called the LGBTQ+ lifestyle and then either you or the culture changes its views on what “truth” is?  Where will that leave you?

Again, emotions can be fickle, capricious, whimsical and extremely misleading. They can be strong, but misguided. They consider the moment, but not the long term consequences of one’s actions. They can want instant gratification without stopping to look at the larger context of one’s life by critically analyzing the consequences of one’s choices, how this will affect one’s life tomorrow or next year, the rest of one’s life, and even beyond into the next life.

Again, the mores and values of the society and culture around us are powerful influences that affect how we feel and sometimes how we think. But is this a good thing? Look at history. Is the majority always right? At one time, the majority believed that the earth was flat and those who thought otherwise were persecuted. Prior to the US Civil War, a large percentage of Americans thought that slavery was a normal and even a good thing. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died debating that issue! Not long ago, an entire nation wanted to take over the world and believed that all Jews, Gypsies and handicapped people should be exterminated. We all know how that ended. All this is to say that you cannot believe everything that the majority of people are telling you. Therefore, it is wise to stop and think critically about things before making choices that will alter your life one way or the other.

So feelings and emotions, whether they are on the individual or societal level can and will change. If we base our actions on feelings and the need for sexual fulfilment and emotional intimacy, isn’t there a whole lot more to life this? Too often our secular society tells us that emotional intimacy has to lead to physical intimacy resulting in some form of sexual expression. It seems that the LGBTQ+ lifestyle is, to one degree or another, the outgrowth of this perception. But temporary pleasure and physical intimacy is only a tiny piece of the puzzle of life. There is a whole lot more to having a fulfilling life than this.

The purpose of this discussion is to present the reader with an alternative perspective if one is thinking about choosing an alternative sexual lifestyle, or maybe who have experimented with it already and have found themselves searching for something more. The point is that there are other choices than the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, which, in the long run and the overall paradigm of life, will bring deeper joy, happiness, meaning and purpose. We will consider these options in part two of this discussion.
