  1. Amanda and I have always loved “לך לך” Lech L’cha especially since three weeks after we were married during Sukkot of 2008, I used my Alaska Airlines mileage to embark on a honeymoon in Israel. The day we flew out of the USA, the land we were both born and raised in, the daily Torah portion included a verse where Master יהוה Eloheinu told Avram to “leave the land of his fathers and go towards a land that I will show you.” After an overnight layover at Heathrow airport, we continued flying over the Mediterranean where Tel Aviv came into our view as we descended towards Ben Gurion Airport. That was on the third day of our flights and the daily Torah portion had verses that said, “Arise and walk the Land, north, south, east and west”. We don’t believe in coincidences and believed that He wanted us to literally walk the land so we began including several days with our backpacks and sleeping bags heading south from the northern entrance/exit of the “שביל ישראל” Israel National Trail from Kibbutz Dan to Lake Kineret (Sea of Galilee). We met many “trail angels” and exceedingly helpful and friendly people along the way where we shared who we are and what we were doing. We also walked northward along the Mediterranean beaches from Tel Aviv through Caesarea and on to Zichron Ya’akov. Many walks throughout Jerusalem and many other areas. We also headed southbound from the latest home of David and Paula Ben Gurion in the Negev Desert village of Sde Boker to the Red Sea resort of Eilat. We had more planned hikes including Mount Hermon to the eastern shores of Lake Kineret two times that were either cancelled by the Israeli government or the airlines during the lockdowns of 2020 – 2021. With the current situation, we’re not sure what will be next for our journey.

    • What an awesome experience! You are blessed to have done this. What little personal involvement I have had with land Israel has increased my understanding of the Bible and love for the Jewish people exponentially. I can only guess how the same has happened to you but on a much grander scale.

  2. The children of Lot and Ishmael are today’s Palestinians and are subsequently responsible for Hamas.
    Shalom, John

  3. I appreciated that you brought out the idea that Abram did not immediately and completely follow YHVH’s instructions. He did not separate from ALL his family members – Lot – through whom came the Ammonites and Moabites! I had not seen that before. We need to listen, trust, and obey.
    Thank you for your insight!
