      • My question regarding 1 Cor 11:16…………….The teaching stopped short of including this verse. How do you interpret that?

      • What Paul is saying in 1 Cor 11:16 is this: For those in the congregation who refused to be persuaded by the arguments Paul had just laid out regarding hair and head coverings, he ends his discussion by stating that “this is how we do it.” In other words, it was not their custom for women to have their heads uncovered while praying or prophesying, and for men to have long hair, and contention over this point, in Paul’s mind, was unacceptable. Period.

  1. This is very helpful. When I was filled with the Holy Spirit for days I couldn’t leave the house. I wanted to cover my face with a veil to protect myself from the world. Also there was something very significant about my hair. I couldn’t come to terms of cutting my hair for a long time. When I eventually did I found the whole process very painful. Thank you for this teaching

  2. wow. I have never heard it interpreted that way before. I have only heard that he was saying that we have no custom to do these things. This has always been taught as being tradition and not law. I had written you before about headcover for men and you answered that it was tradition and that it was sometimes just a “fashion statement.” Are you changing that or am I missing something?

    • Let’s not forget that I’m not the one who gave the teaching. My associate pastor, Dr. Joe did. He’s more convicted about head coverings for men than I am. I respect his opinion and allow for freedom and even difference of opinion in our congregation on non-salvational issues. Second, we’ve always held in our congregation that women, when praying or prophesying publicly, should have their heads covered with more than just their hair. For men, head coverings are optional. Dr. Joe always has his head covered when ministering. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don’t. For me, it’s not a hard fast rule that a man has his head covered. Paul isn’t dogmatic on this either. He is dogmatic that it’s a shame for a man to have long hair (Nazarites excepted, since Torah allows for this). Both Dr. Joe and I view men wearing caps at all time (as the Orthodox Jews do) as a non-biblical tradition of men.

      • True. SInce I’m relatively new to your teachings, I am not aware of who is who and what authority the teaching is “under,” so-to-speak. I appreciate the different opinions of this and there are many. I think I will have to put this one in the growing pile of things I will find out “One Day soon!!” Thanks for your time and for the answers and discussion! May Abba bless you! drb
