{"id":8078,"date":"2016-02-17T07:29:43","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T15:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=8078"},"modified":"2020-03-29T11:55:55","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T18:55:55","slug":"four-horns-of-the-altar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2016\/02\/17\/four-horns-of-the-altar\/","title":{"rendered":"What is prophetic significance of the four horns of the altar?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Exodus 29:12,<\/b> <b><i>Horns of the altar. <\/i><\/b>The four horns of the altar of sacrifice was the place where the blood of atonement was sprinkled (also Lev 4:4, 17, 18, 25, 30, 34; 8:15; 9:9; 16:18).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2016\/02\/17\/four-horns-of-the-altar\/altar-of-sacrifice-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8079\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8079\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Altar-of-Sacrifice-300x283.gif\" alt=\"Altar of Sacrifice\" width=\"300\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Altar-of-Sacrifice-300x283.gif 300w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Altar-of-Sacrifice-318x300.gif 318w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Horn <\/i>in Hebrew is <i>qeren <\/i>meaning \u201chorn, hill or ray.\u201d This word is used to describe the rays of light rays emanating from the face of Moses after his encounter with YHVH (Exod 34:29) and the horns of an animal (Ps 69:31).<\/p>\n<p>In ancient cultures, the horn was a metaphor for physical strength or spiritual power (Deut 33:17; 2 Sam 22:3; Ps 18:2). Elsewhere, YHVH is referred to as man\u2019s \u201chorn of salvation\u201d meaning he is the <i>strength<\/i> of our salvation. The Hebrew word for <i>salvation <\/i>is<i> yesha<\/i> meaning \u201cdeliverance, rescue, safety, welfare, victory, prosperity.\u201d The root of <i>yesha<\/i> is the verb <i>yasha <\/i>meaning \u201cto save, to deliver, to give victory.\u201d Not only is YHVH called our \u201chorn of salvation\u201d in the <i>Tanakh<\/i>, but this designation is applied to Yeshua as well in the Testimony of Yeshua (Luke 1:69).<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <i>Yeshua <\/i>is a derivative of the Hebrew name <i>Yehoshua <\/i>(or <i>Joshua<\/i>), which also derives from <i>yasha. <\/i>It should be evident from this quick study that the horns of the altar are a picture of Yeshua, who is the horn or strength of our salvation and who shed his blood for our sins on the altar of the cross.<\/p>\n<p>This being the case, why then are there four horns on the altar? This is likely symbolic of the four attributes of Yeshua, even as the four colors of cloth used throughout the tabernacle prophetically symbolize the same thing: crimson speaks to Yeshua\u2019s humanity, purple to his kingship, blue to his divinity, and white to his sinlessness or righteousness.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Jewish sages view the four horns as symbolizing the four corners of the earth, for, in Hebraic thought, the earth is nothing more than a large altar dedicated to Elohim.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, the horns on the four corners of the altar prophetically and symbolically point to the fact that Yeshua\u2019s blood poured out at the cross saves all humans (from the four corners of the earth who would trust in him) from their sins.<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'What is prophetic significance of the four horns of the altar?',url: 'https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2016\/02\/17\/four-horns-of-the-altar\/',contentID: 'post-8078',suggestTags: 'Altar of Sacrifice,Exodus,horns of the altar,Sacrifices,Sacrificial System,Salvation,Tabernacle of Moses,The Cross,Yeshua',providerName: 'Hoshana Rabbah Blog',styling: 'text' });return false\" class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryLink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.evernote.com\/article-clipper.png\" \nclass=\"evernoteSiteMemoryButton\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryClear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exodus 29:12, Horns of the altar.
