Matt 5:22.)<\/p>\n<p>How does this compare with Yeshua&#8217;s forbidding his disciples from calling a brother a fool in Matthew 5:22? Let&#8217;s see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2016\/01\/21\/who-is-a-fool\/attachment\/22027902\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7898\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7898\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/22027902-300x294.jpg\" alt=\"22027902\" width=\"300\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/22027902-300x294.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/22027902-307x300.jpg 307w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/22027902.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Matthew 5:22,<\/b> <b><i>Brother\u2026raca\u2026fool.<\/i><\/b> <i>Raca<\/i> is an Aramaic word meaning \u201cempty, i.e., a senseless, an empty headed man, vain, worthless, shallow brains\u201d and was a term of reproach used among the Jews. <i>Fool<\/i> (Gr. <i>moros<\/i>) can also be translated as \u201cempty, i.e. a senseless, empty headed man.\u201d In Luke 11:40, Yeshua called the hypocritical Pharisees <i>fools<\/i> (Gr. <i>aphron<\/i>) or \u201cwithout reason, senseless, foolish, stupid, without reflection or intelligence, acting rashly.\u201d In Yeshua\u2019s mind, it seems that calling an unbelieving religious hypocrite a fool is one thing, but calling one\u2019s spiritual brother a fool (without a cause) is quite a different matter. Therefore, it would seem that to Yeshua, there is a time and place even to call a brother a fool as long as one is justified (presumably on solid Torah-based, scriptural ground) for doing so.<\/p>\n<p>The LXX translators replace the Hebrew word <i>nabal<\/i> and the Greek word <i>moros. <\/i>According the <i>TDNT<\/i>, <i>nabal<\/i> not only means \u201cwant of understanding,\u201d but also refers to one who \u201cis missing the true understanding of Elohim, acknowledgement or confession of Elohim. Someone who\u2019s heart is hardened and whose spiritual eyes are blind and ears are deaf. The folly condemned here is apostasy from Elohim. Yeshua uses the <i>moros<\/i> in describing the five virgins who were unprepared for the bridegroom in his Matthew 25 parable. Apparently, they were in a far worse state spiritually than one might suppose from a casual reading of this parable.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is this: We must be careful who we\u00a0call a fool. The Creator made man was made in his\u00a0image,\u00a0and is thus a dignified, honorable and noble being. In Hebraic thought, anything that\u00a0demotes a person&#8217;s honor not only is a serious offense, but is a slap in the face of Elohim, the Creator.
