{"id":7702,"date":"2015-12-23T10:52:40","date_gmt":"2015-12-23T18:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=7702"},"modified":"2015-12-23T10:54:07","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T18:54:07","slug":"levi-lemons-to-lemonade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2015\/12\/23\/levi-lemons-to-lemonade\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tribe of Levi: Lemons to Lemonade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Genesis 49:7,<\/b> <b><i>I will scatter\/divide them.<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i>For Simeon, this prophecy was fulfilled in that they had an inheritance both in the area Judah and among the region of northern tribes.<\/p>\n<p>For Levi\u2019s part, his descendants were given the priesthood and were scattered in 48 cities throughout Israel (Num 35:7).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2015\/12\/23\/levi-lemons-to-lemonade\/attachment\/20195768\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7703\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7703\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20195768-300x246.jpg\" alt=\"20195768\" width=\"300\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20195768-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20195768-366x300.jpg 366w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20195768.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>YHVH put this tribe\u2019s passion against evil to good use. Levi\u2019s vengeful anger against Shechem for raping Dinah was excessive and outside the bounds of Torah-law (Gen 38). However, this passion for righteousness and justice became further evident as Levi\u2019s descendants were the ones who stood up against the rebellious Israelites at the golden calf.<\/p>\n<p>Moses used this tribe to execute YHVH\u2019s judgment against the golden calf worshippers (Exod 32:25\u201329). This time, Levi acted in accordance to and within the bounds of the Torah as prescribed by Moses. For this, they were granted the priesthood and as such, were scattered throughout Israel (in fulfillment of Jacob\u2019s prophecy) to better accomplish their duties. They became responsible for teaching Israel YHVH\u2019s Torah and for acting as judges of the law (Deut 33:10; 24:8; Lev 24:10\u201311).<\/p>\n<p>The beauty of this story is that YHVH can take the flawed character traits or misguided and even carnal passions of an individual or of a family or a society and redeem them by redirecting them along righteous lines in accordance with Torah principles. Zeal and passion are wonderful character attributes, but they need to be channeled in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>To the Laodiceans in Revelation YHVH said he would rather they be hot or cold in their passions (Rev 3:15\u201316). He had no use for lukewarmness, which is apathy. One who is cold or dead is waiting to be awakened spiritually. One who is hot with passion already simply needs direction. One who is lukewarm does even care enough to go one way or the other.<\/p>\n<p>With YHVH Elohim all things are possible. He knows how to take our lemons and turn them into lemonade for his glory!
