Read and find out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy 16:22, <i>You shall not erect for yourselves a pillar, which YHVH your Elohim hates.<\/i><\/strong><i> <\/i>The word <i>pillar<\/i>\u00a0literally means \u201cstand (upright), be set (over), establish.\u201d<i> <\/i>One of the derivatives of this word is <i>pillar or<\/i> <i>standing image. <\/i>Such pillars were erected for pagan religious purposes (see <i>The TWOT<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/08\/25\/sacred-pillars-steeples\/steeple2-14634675\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5389\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5389\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Steeple2-14634675-157x300.jpg\" alt=\"Steeple2- 14634675\" width=\"157\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Steeple2-14634675-157x300.jpg 157w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Steeple2-14634675-535x1024.jpg 535w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Steeple2-14634675.jpg 628w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>C.J. Koster in his book <i>The Final Restoration <\/i>(reprinted as <i>Come Out of Her My People<\/i>) cites historical evidence for relating these pillars to the Egyptian and Babylonian obelisk, which was connected to sun worship and the phallic symbol. He states that these pillars were commonly erected at the entrances to pagan temples as fertility symbols in honor of the sun deity (Ibid<i>. <\/i>p. 79). Even as an Egyptian obelisk of this sort sits in the very center of the Catholic Church\u2019s St. Peter\u2019s Square in Rome, so, according to Koster, it is traditional for obelisk-shaped steeples to be found on Christian churches to this day (Ibid<i>.<\/i>, p. 81). Richard Rives in his book, <i>Too Long In the Sun<\/i>,<i> <\/i>makes the same connection between the Egyptian obelisk, Canaanite standing pillars and the Christian church steeple (p. 136).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/08\/25\/sacred-pillars-steeples\/christmas-tree-20509113\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5390\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5390\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Christmas-Tree-20509113-230x300.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas Tree 20509113\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Christmas-Tree-20509113-230x300.jpg 230w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Christmas-Tree-20509113.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What is the point here? YHVH commanded Israel to destroy these pagan symbols and to have nothing to do with them. They were abominations that would defile YHVH\u2019s set-apart people.
