It is because they violated the Torah laws regarding the handling of devoted things. (See notes at Lev 27:28\u201329.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/28\/sin-in-the-dispensation-of-grace\/attachment\/58972\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4536\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4536\" alt=\"58972\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/58972-234x300.jpg\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/58972-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/58972-801x1024.jpg 801w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/58972.jpg 1153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s interesting to note that YHVH struck Ananias and Sapphira dead <i>after<\/i> the cross in, what many Christians call, the dispensation of grace era when, in their minds, sin doesn\u2019t carry the same severe penalty us under \u201cold covenant,\u201d law of\u00a0 Moses era.<\/p>\n<p>What we learn from this is that YHVH still views sin as sin, and the wages of sin is still death. This has never changed before or after the cross of Yeshua. Just because one isn&#8217;t struck dead immediately upon having sinned doesn&#8217;t mean one hasn&#8217;t incurred the death penalty. That death penalty is only waived when one repents of their sin and asks for YHVH&#8217;s forgiveness through faith in Yeshua whose death paid the death penalty price for our sins.<\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s see what the Torah has to say about the sin Ananias and Sapphira committed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leviticus 27:28\u201329, <i>devote \u2026 devoted thing. <\/i><\/strong>Heb. <i>charam <\/i>and <i>cherem<\/i>\u00a0meaning \u201ca <!--more-->devoted or dedicated thing, ban, devotion.\u201d According to <em>The Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament<\/em> (TWOT)<i>, <\/i>the basic meaning of <i>herem <\/i>is the exclusion of an object from the use or abuse of man and its irrevocable surrender to Elohim. <i>Cherem<\/i> can refer to the dedication of something for YHVH\u2019s exclusive use, and if one uses that which was devoted to YHVH for personal use, then the object is profaned and the person brings upon himself a curse or even the death penalty (Lev 27:28\u201329) because such activity displeases YHVH. The violation of this principle is what brought about the deaths of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. Therefore, <i>cherem<\/i> can refer to \u201ca ban for utter destruction, the compulsory dedication of something which impedes or resists God\u2019s work, which is considered to be accursed before God.\u201d This word is also used in reference to all the cities that Joshua\u2019s troops destroyed, thus indicating the Israelites\u2019 rationale for their destruction, since otherwise the inhabitants of these heathen cities would have lured YHVH\u2019s people away from him. In this case, it could be said that the heathen Canaanites were using YHVH <i>charem <\/i>(devoted) land in a displeasing manner to Elohim, thus he marked or devoted them for destruction. All objects or people who YHVH designates as <i>charem <\/i>(in the pejorative sense), he considers to be offensive or injurious to his work.<\/p>\n<p>Related to this are objects to be set apart because they were pleasing and useful to him, which are referred to as <i>qadosh<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>It is related to the Arabic word <i>harem <\/i>meaning \u201cto prohibit, especially to ordinary use,\u201d and in popular usage refers the special quarters for Muslim wives (<i>TWOT<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p>The name <i>hermon<\/i> as in Mount Hermon shares the same three letter root (HRM) with <i>cherem<\/i> and means \u201csacred.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'Still a Death Penalty for Sin in the \\&quot;Dispensation of Grace\\&quot; Era?',url: 'https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/28\/sin-in-the-dispensation-of-grace\/',contentID: 'post-4535',suggestTags: 'Ananias and Sapphira,Book of Acts,Death Penalty,Leviticus,Sin',providerName: 'Hoshana Rabbah Blog',styling: 'text' });return false\" class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryLink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.evernote.com\/article-clipper.png\" \nclass=\"evernoteSiteMemoryButton\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryClear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acts 5:1\u201311, The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira.
