{"id":4215,"date":"2014-01-10T18:04:14","date_gmt":"2014-01-11T02:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=4215"},"modified":"2014-08-23T15:19:34","modified_gmt":"2014-08-23T22:19:34","slug":"shabbat-shalom-preparing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/10\/shabbat-shalom-preparing\/","title":{"rendered":"The Key to Having Shabbat Shalom \u2014 Preparing!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Exodus 16:4\u201330,<i> <\/i>The Sabbath.<\/strong><i> <\/i>This chapter chronicles YHVH\u2019s efforts to literally force an irreverent, unruly and disobedient nation to keep the seventh day Sabbath. He did so in a most poignant way \u2014 through food and hunger. It\u2019s as if he were instructing the stiff-necked and rebellious Israelites that if they refused to follow his Sabbath instructions, they would literally go hungry. \u201cIf you don\u2019t obey me, you don\u2019t eat.\u201d This shows the gravity the Creator places on the Sabbath command.<\/p>\n<p>Yet despite these clear instructions, most in the church today, like the rebellious children of Israel of old, refuse to obey YHVH\u2019s clear instructions. Instead, they prefer to believe the doctrines of men proffered to them by their spiritual leaders that purport to invalidate the Sabbath command. Paul\u2019s sage observation in Romans 8:7 describes the situation perfectly: \u201cBecause the carnal mind is enmity against Elohim: for it is not subject to the [Torah] law of Elohim, neither indeed can be.\u201d In our day, the same question can still asked of followers of Yeshua that YHVH asked of the Israelites at that time, \u201cHow long do you reuse to keep my commandments and my laws?\u201d (Exod 16:28).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/10\/shabbat-shalom-preparing\/shabbat-shalom-coast\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4216\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4216\" alt=\"shabbat shalom coast\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shabbat-shalom-coast.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shabbat-shalom-coast.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shabbat-shalom-coast-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shabbat-shalom-coast-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This chapter is almost entirely dedicated to instructions pertaining to preparing for the Sabbath. This shows the priority that YHVH places on Sabbath observance for his people. Also note that these instructions are given many weeks <i>before<\/i> the giving of the Torah (law of Moses) at Mount Sinai. This is but one of many examples of YHVH giving the Torah-law to his people in one legal corpus before Mount Sinai.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exodus 16:4,<i> On the sixth day\u2026prepare.<\/i><\/strong><i> <\/i>(Also note verse 23.) The sixth day of the week was to be a day of preparation for the Sabbath, so that the Sabbath rest could be complete allowing for man to fully focus on being spiritually edified in the presence of his Creator without the distractions of food preparation and the other mundane duties of life.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>The essential point of this prohibition is to not go out and gather manna on the Sabbath, but to rest on this day from one\u2019s routine work of supporting one\u2019s family. This command didn\u2019t prohibit the Israelites from gathering together on the Sabbath for purposes of teaching, worship, prayer, fellowship or spiritual edification or else YHVH\u2019s command for the Israelites to gather together on the Sabbath for a \u201choly convocation\u201d (Lev 23:2) would be contradictory. Were this command merely an injunction to not leave one\u2019s dwelling place on the Sabbath, then Yeshua and the apostles visiting synagogues on the Sabbath would have been a violation of this Torah command. Isaiah 58:13 could be viewed as the corollary passage to Exodus 16:29. There YHVH instructs his people not to profane the Sabbath by doing their own pleasure, not doing their own ways, and not speaking their own words on this day.
