Not only does this verse disprove that, but it also shows that Abraham kept the Torah-law of Elohim. In a Hebrew lexicon or word dictionary, look up each of these words and study their meanings and how they are used contextually in the Scriptures.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_851\" style=\"width: 266px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2012\/05\/29\/overview-of-deuteronomy\/torah-scroll-open-2-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-851\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-851\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-851\" alt=\"The Torah-Word of Elohim\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Torah-scroll-open-2-256x300.jpg\" width=\"256\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Torah-scroll-open-2-256x300.jpg 256w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Torah-scroll-open-2.jpg 342w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Torah-Word of Elohim<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><i>My laws [Torah]. <\/i><\/strong>The primary meaning of the word <i>Torah<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Strong\u2019s <\/i>H8451, <i>TWOT <\/i>910b), according to the <i>Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament <\/i>(<i>TWOT<\/i>) is \u201cteaching\u201d<i> <\/i>(and not \u201claw\u201d). <i>Strong\u2019s Concordance <\/i>lists the meaning of <i>Torah <\/i>in this order: \u201ca precept, a statute<i>.\u201d The New Brown-Driver-Briggs-Gesenius Hebrew-English Lexicon<\/i> defines <i>Torah <\/i>as \u201cdirection, instruction, law\u201d<i> <\/i>(in that order). According to <i>Strong\u2019s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible<\/i>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Torah<\/i> signifies primarily \u201cdirection, teaching, instruction\u201d (Prov 13:14). It is derived from the verb <i>yarah<\/i> [\u05d9\u05e8\u05d4] [meaning] <i>\u2018to project, point out\u2019<\/i> (3384) and hence to point out or teach. The law of [Elohim] is that which points out or indicates His will to man \u2026 Seen against its background of the verb <i>yarah<\/i>, it becomes clear that <i>Torah<\/i> is much more than law or a set of rules. Torah is not restriction or hindrance, but instead the means whereby one can reach a goal or ideal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <i>TWOT <\/i>similarly states,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The word <i>Torah<\/i> basically means \u201cteaching\u201d whether it is the wise man instructing his son or [Elohim] instructing Israel. The wise give insight into all aspects of life so that the young may know how to conduct themselves and to live a long blessed life (Prov 3:1f). So too [Elohim], motivated by love, reveals to man basic insights into how to live with each other and how to approach [Elohim]. Through the law [Elohim] shows his interest in all aspects of man\u2019s life which is to be lived under his direction and care. Law of [Elohim] stands parallel to [the] word of [YHVH] to signify that law is the revelation of [Elohim\u2019s] will (e.g. Isa 1:10).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As already noted, the word <i>Torah<\/i> originates from the root word<i> yarah<\/i>\u00a0\u05d9\u05e8\u05d4 (<i>Strong\u2019s <\/i>H3384), which means \u201cto flow as water, to lay or throw as in shooting an arrow; to point out as if aiming the finger to make a point, to teach.\u201d Another cognate (related word) of the word <i>Torah<\/i> is the Hebrew word <i>moreh <\/i>(<i>Strong\u2019s<\/i> H4175) which means \u201cteacher or archer (as in one who shoots at a target).\u201d <i>Moreh <\/i>derives from the same Hebrew root word, <i>yarah<\/i>,<i> <\/i>as does <i>Torah.<\/i> Therefore, when one is walking according to the Torah of YHVH Elohim, one is walking in the light of YHVH\u2019s truth, which is hitting the mark of righteousness. Likewise, YHVH\u2019s teachings or instructions are a river of life flowing from his throne aimed at hitting the mark of truth and righteousness. By contrast, the Hebrew word for sin is <i>chata <\/i>(<i>Strong\u2019s <\/i>H2298) which means \u201cto miss the mark,\u201d i.e., transgressing the Torah as 1 John 3:4 states, \u201cSin is the transgression of the Torah.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'Abraham \u2014 The Father of the Torah-Obedient',url: 'https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/30\/abraham-the-father\/',contentID: 'post-3929',suggestTags: 'Abraham,Genesis,Torah',providerName: 'Hoshana Rabbah Blog',styling: 'text' });return false\" class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryLink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.evernote.com\/article-clipper.png\" \nclass=\"evernoteSiteMemoryButton\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryClear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Genesis 26:5, Abraham obeyed [shema] my voice [kol], and kept [also: observe, preserve, guard; shamar, \u05e9\u05de\u05e8] my charge [mishmereth], my commandments [mitzvah] my statutes [chuqqah], and my laws [toroti].
