{"id":1571,"date":"2012-10-17T21:25:12","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T04:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=1571"},"modified":"2012-10-21T15:47:05","modified_gmt":"2012-10-21T22:47:05","slug":"what-is-a-worker-of-iniquity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2012\/10\/17\/what-is-a-worker-of-iniquity\/","title":{"rendered":"What Is a &#8220;Worker of Iniquity&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Matthew 7:21\u201323,<\/strong> <strong>What is the meaning of the word \u201ciniquity\u201d or &#8220;lawlessness&#8221; (in verse 23)?<\/strong> It is the Greek word <em>anomia <\/em>(<em>Strong\u2019s<\/em> G458) meaning \u201cunrighteousness\u201d or \u201clawlessness.\u201d <em>Righteousness<\/em> by biblical definition is \u201cadherence to the Torah-commandments of YHVH\u201d (Ps 119:172).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2012\/10\/17\/what-is-a-worker-of-iniquity\/sin-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1573\" title=\"Sin\" src=\"http:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Sin-1-300x253.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Sin-1-300x253.png 300w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Sin-1-1024x866.png 1024w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Sin-1-354x300.png 354w, https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Sin-1.png 1352w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the Jewish writers of the Testimony of Yeshua (NT) use the word \u201claw\u201d is almost always a reference to the Torah. In Hebrew thought then (and now), there was no other law except the Law of Moses. This \u201claw\u201d or Torah came from Elohim through the \u201cAngel\u201d or\u00a0 more properly the Messenger from heaven who gave the Torah to Moses, and who was none other than the pre-incarnate Yeshua (Acts 7:37\u201338). So the word \u201ciniquity\u201d or \u201clawlessness,\u201d as used in our verse could quite simply be understood to mean \u201cTorahlessness.\u201d In fact, <em>Torahlessness<\/em> would be an apt translation of the Greek word <em>anomia<\/em>, which is behind the word <em>iniquity<\/em> or <em>lawlessness <\/em>(depending on the English translation).<\/p>\n<p>Quite clearly, In Matthew 7:21-23, Yeshua is speaking to those who claim or profess to be his followers, who claim or profess his name, claim his miraculous power, claim to speak by his authority and even claim, no doubt, to love him, <strong><em>but in reality they fail to love him (according to the biblical definition of love) by obeying his word or Torah-commandments<\/em><\/strong> (John 14:15). In other words, they are sinners, walking in sinfulness, for John defines sin in his epistle as \u201cthe transgression of the Torah-law of Elohim\u201d (1 John 3:4).<\/p>\n<p>Of these same people, in the day of judgment, Yeshua will say, \u201cDepart from me, you that work [do] Torahlessness, I never knew you.\u201d Yeshua will not accept these people on the basis of their verbal professions or claims, nor will he accept them on the basis of their prophetic or miracle-working abilities. Yeshua, the Living Torah of Elohim made flesh, will accept them <strong><em>only<\/em><\/strong> on the basis of their obedience to and orientation toward the Torah-law of Elohim.<\/p>\n<p>Is Yeshua here abrogating or nullifying the Torah-law given to Moses or is he reaffirming it to his followers? The language of this scripture is very clear to those who have ears to hear and to those who are truth-seekers. <em><strong>He is loudly and clearly validating the Torah and its relevance upon the lives of his disciples or followers!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you are a true follower of Yeshua, the Messiah, THEN you will be making every effort to love him by obeying his Torah as best you can by his grace and the power of his Set-Apart Spirit.
