{"id":13747,"date":"2018-12-27T07:23:24","date_gmt":"2018-12-27T15:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=13747"},"modified":"2018-12-27T07:23:24","modified_gmt":"2018-12-27T15:23:24","slug":"is-your-job-a-launch-pad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2018\/12\/27\/is-your-job-a-launch-pad\/","title":{"rendered":"Is your job a launch pad into your ministry?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/shepherd.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13748\" src=\"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/shepherd.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"856\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Exodus 3:1,<\/b> <b><i>Tending the flock.<\/i><\/b> Moses spent forty years in the wilderness of Midian tending the flocks of Jethro, his father-in-law. After this phase of his life, YHVH called and commissioned Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and then to shepherd them through the wilderness en route to the Promised Land. This was the very same wilderness where Moses had shepherded Jethro\u2019s sheep for forty years. Moses\u2019 job as a physical shepherd prepared him for the next phase of his life\u2014his ministry as a spiritual shepherd.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Often YHVH chooses individuals as his servants based on their vocational background, which provides training for the spiritual ministry to which he then calls them. For example, David was a shepherd before he became the king over Israel. Yeshua was a carpenter before he became a builder of the spiritual house of Israel (Heb 3:3\u20136; 1 Pet 2:5), and several of Yeshua\u2019s disciples were commercial fishermen before becoming \u201cfishers of men\u201d or apostolic evangelists. Sometimes our physical vocations may be an indicator of what our spiritual calling is.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Being a shepherd of physical sheep is a most suitable profession to prepare one for tending YHVH\u2019s spiritual sheep. A shepherd has to put the needs, comfort, care and protection of the sheep above that of his own. This is one reason why the Scriptures refer to those who care for and protect YHVH\u2019s spiritual sheep as shepherds or pastors. There are many similarities between physical and spiritual shepherds, and physical and spiritual sheep.
