{"id":12175,"date":"2018-03-01T07:14:39","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T15:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=12175"},"modified":"2018-03-01T07:14:39","modified_gmt":"2018-03-01T15:14:39","slug":"the-biblical-feasts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2018\/03\/01\/the-biblical-feasts\/","title":{"rendered":"To Whom Do the Biblical Feasts Belong: YHVH or the Jews?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>John 7:2, <i>The Jews\u2019 Feast of Tabernacles.<\/i><\/b> A casual reading of this verse (and other similar references in the Gospels to the \u201cJewish festivals\u201d) may lead one to believe that the biblical feasts are of Jewish origination and thus for the Jews only. This is a prevalent notion in the mainstream church. However, understanding the Gospel writer\u2019s comment in the cultural and spiritual context in which it was written will shatter this erroneous concept.<\/p>\n<p>A study of the Bible will first reveal that the biblical feasts were given not only to the Jews, but to all the tribes of Israel by YHVH himself when he gave them the Torah after the children of Israel left Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>Second, in the first century, different religious sects had different calendars so that they observed the biblical feasts at different times. For example, the Samaritans had their own calendar that differed from that of the mainstream Jews. Moreover, the Dead Sea scrolls reveal that the Essenes toyed around with several calendars. Within mainstream Judaism, there was even a difference of opinion (between the Sadducees\/Boethusians and Pharisees), for example, as to when to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost.<\/p>\n<p>So when John uses the term, \u201cthe Jews\u2019 Feast of Tabernacles\u201d he\u2019s not indicating that the feasts were of Jewish origination and thus belonged exclusively to the Jews, but rather which calendar he\u2019s referring to or on which days certain feasts were to be observed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'To Whom Do the Biblical Feasts Belong: YHVH or the Jews?',url: 'https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2018\/03\/01\/the-biblical-feasts\/',contentID: 'post-12175',suggestTags: 'Biblical Feasts,Biblical Holidays,Gospel of John,Holy Days',providerName: 'Hoshana Rabbah Blog',styling: 'text' });return false\" class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryLink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.evernote.com\/article-clipper.png\" \nclass=\"evernoteSiteMemoryButton\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryClear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John 7:2, The Jews\u2019 Feast of Tabernacles.
