{"id":10657,"date":"2017-04-17T06:35:02","date_gmt":"2017-04-17T13:35:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/?p=10657"},"modified":"2017-04-17T06:35:02","modified_gmt":"2017-04-17T13:35:02","slug":"big-lie-from-the-mainstream-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2017\/04\/17\/big-lie-from-the-mainstream-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Another BIG Lie from the Mainstream Church?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Acts 8:16, <i>For as yet He had<\/i>. <\/b>In most of our modern English Bibles, this verse supports the notion that the Holy or\u00a0\u00a0Set-Apart\u00a0Spirit is masculine by using the third person singular of the verb in reference to the antecedent <i>Holy Spirit<\/i>, which is found in the preceding verse. Is this a correct translation?<\/p>\n<p>First, the Greek word spirit <i>pneuma<\/i>\u00a0is a neuter-gender noun. To be grammatically correct, therefore, our verse should read, \u201cFor as yet, It\u2026.\u201d and not &#8220;He.&#8221; However, the Bible reveals that the Set-Apart Spirit is a Person, so it has to be either masculine or feminine. In our text, the English words \u201che had\u201d are the one Greek word heyn<em>\u00a0<\/em>which is the active, indicative, imperative, third person singular of the verb <em>eymee<\/em> meaning, in its infinitive state, \u201cto be,\u201d or in its imperfect tense, \u201cwas.\u201d In this verse, the verb <em>eymee<\/em> in this form can mean either, \u201che was, she was, or it was\u201d (<i>Basics of Biblical Greek<\/i>, p. 59, by William Mounce).<\/p>\n<p>So how do we determine what the gender should be of the Set-Apart Spirit? In the Tanakh, the Hebrew word for <i>spirit<\/i> (as in Set-Apart Spirit) is <i>ruach<\/i>, which is in the feminine gender. Since the concept of the Set-Apart Spirit originates in the Hebrew language of the Tanakh, and since Elohim (the plural Hebrew noun indicating the plurality of the <i>Godhead<\/i>) reveals himself as both male and female (Gen 1:26\u201327), it is, therefore, illogical to refer to the Set-Apart Spirit in the masculine gender in Acts 8:16. Therefore, in Acts 8:16, referring to the Set-Apart Spirit as <em>he<\/em> is a blatant example of scribal gloss, and is an example of the translators bowing to the Catholic doctrine of the third person in the Godhead being male in gender even though the linguistics of this verse don\u2019t support it, and something the Bible as a whole doesn\u2019t support.<\/p>\n<p>This now begs the following question: If the Set-Apart Spirit isn\u2019t male, but is part of the Godhead, then what other gender is there for the Set-Apart Spirit to be?<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'Another BIG Lie from the Mainstream Church?',url: 'https:\/\/hoshanarabbah.org\/blog\/2017\/04\/17\/big-lie-from-the-mainstream-church\/',contentID: 'post-10657',suggestTags: 'Acts,Comforter,Godhead,Holy Spirit,Ruach HaKodesh,Set-Apart Spirit,Spirit of Elohim',providerName: 'Hoshana Rabbah Blog',styling: 'text' });return false\" class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryLink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.evernote.com\/article-clipper.png\" \nclass=\"evernoteSiteMemoryButton\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemoryClear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acts 8:16, For as yet He had.
