Why Does a Good God Allow Evil to Exist & “Good” People to Suffer?

“I’m a good person…just ask me!”

Why Does God Allow Evil to Exist on the Earth?

The following is a step-by-step logical answer to this questions.

YHVH Elohim (the LORD God, the God of the Bible) is pure love and he is holy (sinlessness), which is the opposite of evil and sin. He can have no communion or intimate relationship with that which is contrary to his character.

The Bible reveals that YHVH Elohim is love, and love cannot be self-focused (that is egotism, self worship, selfishness and pride, which is sin and the opposite of love and holiness), and it must be outward flowing. This is why YHVH made man in his own image as a recipient of his love. It was his intent to build a family to be comprised of those who will be like Elohim who is loving and holy (sinless).

Elohim could produce robots or automatons to fawn before and worship him, but true love can’t be generated mechanically. It has to proceed from the heart out of free will choice. Love that is mechanistic or mandated legalistically isn’t love.

So instead of creating Adam and Eve as robots to “love” YHVH mechanistically or robotically and artificially, YHVH gave the first humans a heart and mind and the free will to exercise choice—whether to love him or not.

Since Elohim is love, all that proceeds from him is love. He is the definition of love, and all that he does is love. He gave man the definition of love in written form. It is called the Torah-word of Elohim and is found in the Bible. The Torah shows man how to love Elohim with all his heart, soul and might, and his neighbor as himself.

YHVH gave the first man and woman a couple of simple Torah-instructions to follow (see the Book of Genesis chapter two). All Adam and Eve had to do was to love Elohim by obeying these instructions or commandments, which would have put them not only on the path to having a loving and intimate relationship with Elohim, but between humans as well.

YHVH put man to the test to see if they would choose to love him by obeying him, or to hate him by disobeying him. When Adam and Eve listened to the rebellious lies of the serpent (see Genesis chapter three), and chose to disobey the word of Elohim, they chose the path of sin, rebellion and disobedience.

At this point, man cut himself off from an intimate and loving relationship with an Elohim who is all love and is totally holiness. And men have been going down this path (of sin) against Elohim to this day.

When man sinned against Elohim by breaking his laws, he brought the death penalty curse upon himself. The Bible teaches that the consequences of sin (or rebelling against the instructions or commandments of Elohim) is death, and that all humans have sinned and all deserve to die.

Sin leads ultimately to death and eternal separation from Elohim, which is what man chooses when he rebels (or sins) against Elohim. It is because of man choosing to sin that there is suffering, pain, and evil in the world. It’s because man has chosen the path of rebellion and sin with the consequences that come as a result.

Man likes to blame Elohim for suffering and death, when, in reality, he has brought it all on himself by his own wrong choices.

Elohim has been trying to explain this to men from the beginning, and trying to get men to turn from their evil, sinful and destructive ways, but men refuse to listen. YHVH sent Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets. Men either refused to listen to them, or killed them all. Finally, Elohim sent Yeshua his own Son, and sinful and rebellious men crucified him. Then he sent his apostles and disciples, and evil men killed or persecuted them as well. He then put his Word into written form called the Bible. The Torah-laws form the foundation of the Word of Elohim, but even many people who claim to follow the Bible hate, teach against, repudiate, blaspheme the laws of Elohim.

It is ironic and even pathetic how men don’t want to follow YHVH’s loving instructions, and the want to be just like Adam and Eve who refused to obey Elohim. Such individuals then walk in sin and rebellion against Elohim and then have the chutzpah to blame Elohim for the choices they have made resulting in all the evil and death in the world. The blind and sinful conceit of man knows no bounds in justifying himself and his sin and in blaming Elohim!

Even those who have chosen to love, serve and obey Elohim still suffer, but not as much as those who are walking in open rebellion against Elohim. This is because we still live in a sinful world and this affects all of us. Also, because our forefathers have sinned, the consequences of their sins still can affects us. They made sinful choices and we now suffer the consequences individually and collectively as a society.

Even though righteous people live in a fallen world, YHVH promises to deliver them from that evil when they believe and trust in and then choose to obey Yeshua the Messiah. But the redeemed righteous still sin and need to be refined. This is what YHVH did with the children of Israel for 40 years in the wilderness. He tested, refined and disciplined them as any loving parent does in order to prepare their children for adulthood. Additionally, some of us are still suffering the consequences of bad past choices we have made. There are many reasons why the saints suffer. For example, YHVH allowed Job, a righteous man to suffer, to bring him to a higher level of righteousness and to bring him closer to Elohim. Yeshua suffered as a human not only to bear our sins, but to understand what it was like to be human. He also allowed Paul the apostle to suffer to keep him humble. Furthermore, all men will eventually die. We never know when. Sometimes suffering occurs prior to the inevitable.

It’s vitally important to keep in mind that everything YHVH does is good and loving, and whatever he allows to occur in our life, it’s for our ultimate good and betterment and to bring us closer to him. Those who love him will trust him and know this. In the  twenty-third psalm, David walked through the valley of the shadow of death with joy and peace, knowing that YHVH was there to guide and love him, and eventually bring him to a place of rest and bliss in the presence of Elohim.

Why Do Bad Things Happen to “Good” People

This is a question based on a false premise that assumes people are good.

Secular humanism, the religion of Satan, teaches that man is born innately good. So the idea of man being good is a lie from the devil.

The Bible teaches that there are no good people, that all are sinners in that they have violated YHVH’s laws. The Bible also declares that the heart of man is desperately wicked and crooked, the carnal mind is at enmity against the laws of Elohim, and there’s none who is righteous.

So this question needs to be rephrased: Why do bad things happen to sinful people? The answer? Because of sin, they are bringing upon themselves the consequences of their actions. This is the source of all the evil on the earth, not YHVH Elohim, who is good and loving.

  1. SIN=Self Inflicted Nonsense. A righteous man may have many problems but YHVH delivers him thru them all.

  2. “FURTHERMORE,ALL MEN WILL EVENTUALLY DIE.”
I think some will not taste death
    during Rapture,
when they will be caught up alive
to meet Yeshua in the clouds.

  3. Good lesson. People ask me this very question from time to time in an effort to paint JHVH as indifferent, at best, or even sadistic. But you touched on the core truth in that we are given the opportunity to love JHVH, we are given free will to choose. Yes JHVH is almighty and He could intervene to stop evil people from preying on His sheep and others but then that would negate free will of all of us. Evil people are free to do as they will, even to repent and turn away from sin….and that is the love of JHVH.

  4. Does YHVH need to test us so that He can know what we are like? I don’t think so. I believe He knows what’s in our heart and He knows the future.
I think the testing is for our selves; it shows us what we are like. Humans have a tendency to think of themselves as better than what we really are. Testings give us the opportunity to demonstrate our faith to everyone and it might help others to stand strong.
