It’s time to wake up and let reality slap us in the face!

John 5:46–47, Believed Moses. These two verses at the end of chapter five can easily be overlooked, but their implications are huge.

Quite simply, Yeshua is saying that those who don’t believe the writings of Moses (i.e., the Torah) won’t believe the words of Yeshua who himself upheld the Torah and taught its validity in the lives of his disciples.

This then begs the following question: Where does this leave all those who claim to be followers of Yeshua, but who believe that the law of Moses was abrogated? It’s hard to be absolutely black and white on this matter, since only YHVH can judge the heart condition of each individual, for undoubtedly many who claim the law was “done away with” still adhere to many of the law’s tenets (e.g., you shall not steal, murder, lie, commit adultery, worship idols and you shall honor your parents, etc.) and are thus obedient to the law to one degree or another. However, we can safely say that it’s a matter of degrees. To the degree that we don’t believe the words of Moses, we don’t believe the words of Yeshua who was a proponent (and, in reality, as the Word of Elohim, the Originator) of the Torah-law of Moses.

John makes a similar statement in his first epistle from which we can deduce the following: To the degree we don’t keep the (Torah) commandments of Elohim, we won’t know him; that is to say, conversely, if we keep his commandments which are a reflection of his character, will and heart, we will be able to know what pleases him, which in turn will determine the depth of our spiritual relationship with him (1 John 2:4).

In reality, these should be simple concepts to grasp and put into practice in one’s spiritual walk, yet, sadly, most religious leaders have misled Christians to believe anything and everything but the simple truth through their convoluted doctrines and traditions of men by which they have made  the word of Elohim no effect (Mark 7:13).

It’s time for Elohim’s people to come out of the Babylonian church system with its mixture of truth along with half-truths and lies (Rev 18:4).

  1. Shalom, In answer to the question, where does this leave all those who claim to follow Yeshua? Churches very often do not follow Yeshua, they are following Jes-s. as evidenced by the 43rd verse, I have come in my Father’s Name, and you do not receive Me. if another comes in his own name, him you would receive. just mentioning this, angers most chur-h members, because they love the ability to continue in chur-h . without the Torah. thus, teaching the same as the anti-christ………………. Thanks much.

    • I’m sure that you’d agree that the Father is less concerned about the name (Jesus, Iesus, Yeshua or whatever) than he is about the condition of one’s heart. Will they love him by keeping his commandments? The Hebrew name Yeshua has been translated into many languages, and people who have no knowledge of Hebrew or who have the inability to pronounce certain phonetic sounds in their language will come up with various permutations of the name Yeshua. This isn’t their fault. Abba won’t keep someone out of his kingdom because they say Jesus and not Yeshua. It’s the condition of their heart with regard to the word of Elohim that is the determining factor regarding their status with the Almighty.

  2. Yes, so true and a very good example! We have come out of The Church about five years ago. It is not easy in one way but when you know this is the Will of Elohim, it is easy.
Keeping The Commandments and the Feast of Adonai is a pleasure and a Joy! Nathan is so right, listen to him as he follows The Way of Adonai!
    Thank you, Natan!

  3. This passage caught me unawares a few years ago. I was astounded that I could have believed passionately, purposely and deeply in the Savior, Jesus, for (at that time) 40 years and never read John 5:46-47 to apply to me! My live had changed radically; revelation from the Word, both Old and New Testaments became my food, and I was not shy in sharing the adventure of life in the Splrit.

In 2007, God began nudging us toward our Hebrew roots, and very gradually, we began to see things that had been hidden for years to our Christian mindset. We began a season of repentance for being so blind, but we began studying Torah, keeping the feasts, including Sabbath, and so when, a few years into our exploration, I read John 5:46-47, I was overwhelmed with God’s kindness to cover us all those 40 years with a very blessed life, when we didn’t know any better! I specifically repented for believing only SOME of Jesus’ words (actually a lot of them, as I believed in putting into practice what I read in the Bible), but not ALL Jesus’ words — most particularly, what He said about the law never passing away and that if I didn’t believe Moses’ words and taught others the same (in essence, I did do that), I would be LEAST in the Kingdom of Heaven. Wow! what a shock!

I I surrendered to Jesus on October 13, 1973, and immediately my life showed dramatic fruits of repentance, so I am not quick to judge Christians as to missing out on salvation because they don’t honor the words of Moses. I believe eternal life was granted me in 1973, based on my flat-out surrender to Yeshua — I believed as far as I was taught, and as far as I studied myself, and Father graciously covered me, until He took off my blinders. It’s been a great adventure, including even the 40 years of ignorance!

  4. I love the teaching Natan, and I agree with you. I’m starting to see the epistles and the book of Revelation as answers to questions we don’t have that led us back to the Torah for the instructions. I feel when a believer is ready for the truth our father leads us back to him through his grace for us. Shalom
